Banaras Hindu University (BHU),is a premier Central University and a world class educational institution located in Varanasi, India.The Banaras Hindu University or BHU is an internationally reputed University and is situated in Varanasi. The great nationalist leader, Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, founded the Banaras Hindu University in the year 1916

Banaras Hindu University Institutes

The university comprises 3 Institutes,viz. Institute of Agricultural Sciences(IAS), Institute of Medical Sciences(IMS) and Institute of Technology(IT-BHU),14 Faculties, 124 Departments, 1 DBT Interdisciplinary School of Life Sciences (one of the three in country), 4 Inter-disciplinary Centers, a constituent college for women and 3 constituent schools.

Banaras Hindu University Campus

The main BHU campus is 1,300 acres and includes faculty housing and 55 student hostels. A list of hostels is available at the BHU website.
Besides academic buildings and sports facilities, included within the campus are:
A Shiva temple (Birla Mandir), popularly known as VT (an abbreviation for Vishwanath Temple), and it is the tallest Hindu Temple of India.
An air strip and flying club
A library system including the central Sayajirao Gaekwad Library with over 13 lakh (1.3 million) volumes
A famous museum of rare collections (Bharat Kala Bhavan)
A 927-bed hospital associated with the medical college,ayurvedic college IMS-BHU

Banaras Hindu University Facts

The Banaras Hindu University consists of about 15000 students, coming from to all streams of life, castes, religions and races. It has about 2000 teachers and nearly 5000 non-teaching staff. Another important feature of the BHU is the number of foreign students.
